I am brand new to this parenting thing, but I am spending all of energy learning how to do it right through studying the word. It all started when I was directed to Proverbs 25:2 that says, “It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings to search out a matter.” This is speaking of the duty that we have to search out the things revealed to us in the Word of God through study, application, prayer, and the leading of the Holy Spirit. It is a glorious thing to dedicate our lives to searching out the depths of the Father’s heart.
Then I was led to Deut. 29:29 where it says, “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and our children forever that we may do all the words of the law.” This is speaking directly to us that the revelation that we receive is not meant for us alone. Yes, it will help us, strengthen us, and equip us, but God means for it to do the same for the generations behind us. Think about this: What if a parent takes their lifetime searching out the heart of God and is full of revelation and full of knowledge but trains their kids simply by rules, giving them chores and teaching them how to play sports, etc., if that kid wants to know God for themselves they will have to take their entire lifetime to learn the same things and maybe not even go as far as their father or mother did.
Or their is a parent who takes their lifetime searching out the things revealed in the word, and trains their child up not only in the other things, but specifically on the wisdom, knowledge, and revelation that they have of the heavenly Father. Then the child would not only become knowledgeable of the Father at a young age but quite possibly could be ahead of where their parents were, at say, age 21. That is what we call an inheritance.
Inheritances do something quite unique, in that, they will always put the next generations ahead of where the previous generation started. Think in economic terms. Say a man start out with nothing. Not a penny to his name, but he is a hard worker and has ingenuity. He one day might come up with an invention and through many long years of believing and sacrificing finally has a breakthrough moment and becomes wealthy overnight and builds himself an empire. The man becomes steady in life and has much success. Now the day has come for his life to end, and in his will, all of his money, land, and assets go to his children and he has separated it evenly between the children. Now all of the sudden their father’s hard work gives them a head start at a bright future. They don’t have to spend the first half of their life sacrificing and going through heartache and tears, but they can live with ease and build off of what their father left them.
Now a days their is not much of that going on, whether it be the passing on of knowledge, finances, etc., because their has become a great self-seeking spirit fall on our world. People are not concerned about ladder generations because they seek personal gratitude now. Why else would we kill off babies left and right. Why else do you see divorced homes. Why else do we see our nation being torn apart by men who are involved in politics for selfish reasons based on lust for power, fame, and riches.
We can not let this spirit continue to grow in our churches. We must give our children an inheritance of the revelation of God. We must live our life under the ruling of a Godly government. Our current forms of government would rather squander all of our current assets for the comfort of the current generation, and leave nothing for generations to come. We must not live like that in our daily lives. We must be a people who live by a different paradigm. A people who live by a different set of rules.
We must search out the heart of God now, and make sure that all things that are revealed to us are not only for us but for the benefit of generations to come. Our children should not lose the fear of the Lord in their generation but should actually have an increase of the fear of the Lord in their generation. If we were doing things right, the generations that will come after us will look more like Christ than we ever did.
This is my hope for my daughters and hopefully one day my sons. That they see and hear the revelation that God gives me, and run further than I ever did. Anything less would mean that I failed.
Just study Deut. 29:29 and Proverbs 25:2 and see where it takes you. Maybe this is the first bit of revelation you can pass on to the next generation.
